Mission of the Environmental Sciences Network

Our mission is to stimulate, support and enhance environmental research and teaching at Ohio State, particularly when it spans traditional disciplines. We are charged with connecting diverse initiatives across the university in order to increase the quality, accessibility and impact of Ohio State's contribution to environmental knowledge.

Background

Task Force on the Environmental Sciences

The Environmental Sciences Network and its sister Life Sciences Network came out of the findings of task forces on the Environmental Sciences and Life Sciences commissioned in 2008 to assess the organization of Ohio State's academic and research programs in these areas.

The task force reports identifed tremendous but untapped potential for leveraging individual inititatives across the university into powerful collaborative efforts. The Networks were created in 2011 to advance research and teaching in the environmental and life sciences at Ohio State. Read more about our launch on the Graduate School website.

Provost Joseph Alutto“We have many small initiatives in these areas that would better leverage their impacts if coordinated and supported in a more systemic fashion...By uniting these efforts, we will have greater regional, national, and international impact.”
